Dwight R. Swanson, 58, of Greenwood, passed away on August 28, 2026, leaving behind a loving family, lifelong friendships and a legacy built around the people and activities he cherished most.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Dwight was raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, before making Indianapolis his home for more than 25 years. Over the course of his life, he developed deep connections in each of the communities that became part of his story, ultimately establishing a home and family in the Indianapolis area.
Professionally, Dwight built a long and successful career in eyewear sales with Marchon Eyewear. His years in the industry became an important part of his working life, but those who knew him best understood that his greatest joys were found outside of work, particularly in the time he spent with his family and friends.
Dwight loved being around the people closest to him and took special pleasure in creating memories with his children and extended family. He was someone who appreciated the simple moments that brought people together, whether gathered around a meal, spending time outdoors or enjoying an afternoon with those he loved.
Among his favorite activities were hiking, playing tennis, cooking and grilling. His enjoyment of cooking and grilling was especially meaningful because it gave him another opportunity to bring family and friends together. The meals and gatherings he shared with the people around him became part of the memories that will now be treasured by those who knew him.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Kristi; his daughter, Sophie; his son, Luke; and his stepdaughters, Emma and Bella. He is also survived by his mother, Diane Ostrom; his father, Dave Swanson and stepmother Ruth; and his brothers, Dave and Gina, Doug, Deron and Michelle, and Darrell and Mandy Swanson.
His surviving family also includes his sisters, Dawn and Jerry Campbell and Darlene and Tim Mizzell, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
The family has also endured the heartbreaking loss of Dwight’s son, Blake, who preceded him in death. That loss remained an important part of the family’s story and adds another layer of sorrow to the grief surrounding Dwight’s passing.
For those closest to Dwight, his death represents the loss of a husband, father, son, brother and friend whose presence was woven into countless aspects of their lives. The memories created over the years — from family gatherings and celebrations to outdoor adventures and everyday conversations — will remain with those who loved him.
Dwight’s life was marked by the relationships he built. While his professional career gave him an opportunity to work with people throughout the eyewear industry, his family and friends remained at the center of his life.
His love of hiking and tennis reflected his enjoyment of staying active and spending time outdoors, while his passion for cooking and grilling reflected his appreciation for good food and, more importantly, good company.
A visitation and Celebration of Life service have been scheduled for September 20, 2026, at Covington Memorial Funeral Home in Fort Wayne. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service beginning at 5 p.m. The funeral home is located at 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46804.
The gathering will provide family and friends an opportunity to come together, share memories and honor a man whose life touched many people across the communities where he lived and worked.
Although Dwight’s life came to an end at 58, those who loved him will continue to carry forward the memories of the years they shared with him. His family, friends and extended loved ones will remember the laughter, conversations, meals, outdoor activities and countless personal moments that made him an important part of their lives.
From Cleveland, where he was born, to Fort Wayne, where he was raised, and Indianapolis, where he spent more than 25 years building his life, Dwight left meaningful connections behind.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. For those who knew Dwight, his memory will remain closely tied to the love he had for his family, the friendships he valued and the joy he found in sharing life with the people around him.
As family and friends gather to celebrate his life, Dwight R. Swanson will be remembered not only for the career he built and the places he called home, but for the love, companionship and memories he gave to the people fortunate enough to know him.
